Macedon kept its premiership hopes alive with a four-goal win against Romsey in the Riddell District Netball League.

Having lost to the Redbacks in the second last round of the season, the Cats were keen to make sure it didn’t happen a second time.

On Sunday, there was more on the line with the two teams playing in a knock out semi final at Romsey Park.

The Cats took control of the game early, but the Redbacks wouldn’t let them shoot away.

The Cats did enough though, winning 46-42.

Cats coach Ciara Stewart said they had adjusted from the last time they play Romsey, with the changes working in their favour.

“I’m super happy with the win,” she said.

“Both shooting combinations worked today and our depth was better.

“I felt like we had control and were comfortable for most of the game.

“We played more like a team and we were more confident.”

Stewart said it was a physical game from the get go, with teams needing to adjust to the calls.

The Cats jumped out to an eight goal lead at quarter time, before the Redbacks closed the gap over the next two quarters.

The Cats got it back out to nine goals in the last quarter at one stage before missing a couple of late goals to bring the margin back in.

Having struggled with shooting percentage and turnovers in their first final against Rupertswood, the Cats were much better this time round.

Macedon shot at 83 per cent for the game, with Chloe Wilson shooting 32 goals.

Rebecca Hicks shot 36 goals for Redbacks, with Stewart saying her defenders doing a good job to shut her down.

It was a good day for the Cats with their under-19s also winning through to a preliminary final.

It means three Cats teams will be playing for grand final spots this weekend.

]The Cats’ A-grade side will now face Wallan in a preliminary final next week.

The Magpies lost a semi final to Rupertswood, which is through to the grand final.

Stewart said it would be a good match against the Magpies.

“Both teams are very similar and we think we match up with them well.

“I think it will be a close game.”
