The confidence is growing for Romsey as it eyes off its first ever Central Highlands Bowls Division top grade premiership.
Romsey has been the standout team all season and continues to find a way to win from every situation.
With top spot already secured, Romsey president Andrew Laing is more than happy with how things are tracking.
“It’s been a really good year and we’ll have four of our five teams in the finals,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get a division 1 premiership, we’ve never had one of them before.
“The players have all stepped up and there’s nothing holding us back, we can win this.”
Laing said while some people in the club couldn’t have predicted the season that they’ve had, he said others knew they were in for a good season.
He said the aim had been to make finals and see where it takes them.
With just one loss for the season, there have been some pretty impressive performances.
Laing highlighted beating their bogey side Kyneton Golf twice, including by one shot two rounds ago.
On Saturday, Romsey was dominant in its win against Broadford, claiming the points, 74 (16)-46 (0).
Cameron Austin’s rink won 20-16, Matt Brundell’s rink won 29-12 and Damien Ely’s rink won 25-18.
Laing said if the club could go all the way and win the premiership, it would be unbelievable for the whole club and everyone that had come before them.
He said nothing changes heading into the final round of the regular season.
“We want to keep playing the best possible bowls and hopefully keep on winning.”
In other matches, Lancefield had a solid win against Kyneton.
Lancefield winning, 61 (14)-49 (2).
Gisborne had no troubles against Kilmore, winning 72 (16)-52 (0), while Kyneton Golf smashed Trentham, 99 (16)-37 (0).
Kyneton Golf 2, Romsey 2, Diggers Rest and Macedon were the winners in division 2, while in division 3 Kilmore 3, Woodend 2, Lancefield 2 and Trentham were the winners.
Meanwhile, in Bowls Victoria weekend pennant, Club Sunbury suffered a loss to Middle Park in division 1, section 1.
Lee Wesley was the only winning skip for Club Sunbury in the 84 (16)-65 (2) loss.
Wesley’s rink won 15-14, Mark Cowan’s lost 24-21, Marc Bullows’ lost 21-17 and Sebastian Pretty’s rink lost 25-12.
Club Sunbury’s David Glennon said three of the rinks went down to the wire, but they were able to only get across the line in one.
Wesley, Mark Ryan, Mark Cowan and Emilee Davies were the standouts in the loss.
Club Sunbury remains in second spot, but the gap to the chasing pack has been reduced.
Club Sunbury is on 171, Kingsbury and Middle Park are on 158 and Blackburn is another two points behind.
Club Sunbury faces Ivanhoe this week. Glennon said the match was a must win, with the side facing the ladder leaders in the final round.
Meanwhile, three of Club Sunbury’s other sides have qualified for finals.
