Kyneton aims for consistency

Kyneton is looking for a second straight finals appearance in the Castlemaine and District Cricket Association’s A-reserve competition.

But coach Dale Taylor knows everything has to go their way.

Kyneton is fourth on the seven-team ladder where just one game separates third from last.

“We’ve had mixed form to start the season, but we’re confident going into the second half,” Taylor said.

He said making the finals last season had boosted his side’s confidence. “We made finals when we didn’t expect to. This year we’re on the cusp of playing them and I think most of the group has carried on the feeling from last season.”

Taylor said the main factor determining whether his side made finals would be fielding. “Ultimately it will come down to that; it’s such an important aspect and can win or lose you a match. If we keep standards up to where they need to be it will play a massive role. In some games we’ve been fantastic; in others the standard dropped. We need to be more consistent.” Kyneton will resume its fight for a finals spot on day two against sixth-placed Muckleford at Mapson-Timmins Oval on Saturday. Kyneton made 173, Muckleford is 0-23.
