Kerr to play for Taylors Lakes

West Coast premiership star Daniel Kerr will again wear the blue and gold, but this time for Taylors Lakes on Saturday.

Kerr will line up for the Lions in their crucial Essendon District Football League division 1 match against West Coburg.

Lions president Hilary Pollock said it was a pretty exciting time for the club to have someone like Kerr play for them.

Kerr, who played in the Eagles 2006 premiership, played 220 games for the club between 2001 and 2013

He currently coaches Thornlie Football Club in the Perth Football League (WAAFL).

“We’re thrilled to get his services,” Pollock said.

“We are excited for what it brings to the club and the wider community. The opportunity for the players, both juniors and seniors, to see a class player take to the field and see how he prepares is amazing.”

Pollock said it had been a busy couple of weeks confirming Kerr’s appearance at the club.

She said they were able to get Kerr onboard through a contact at the club.

As well as playing for the senior side, he will also be part of the club’s sportsperson night later that day and will join in at a junior training session on the Friday night.

Pollock said getting Kerr down to a junior training session was something were keen on.

Pollock said while at this stage it was a one-off game, she didn’t rule out trying to get Kerr to play more games for them.

The match against West Coburg is an important one for Taylors Lakes, which has just one win for the season.

Pollock said it had been a slower start to the season for the side than they would have liked, but backed the squad to turn it around.

She said their win against Hillside showed they could match it with the top sides.

“We don’t like sitting down the bottom,” she said.

“We’ve got an amazing team of players under Charles [Cuzzupi], Rohan [Eastway] and Adrian [Aparo].

“We’ve got new coaches on board and lot of new faces in the group. They are still learning each others strengths.

“We’re comfortable we will be up and about towards the end of the year.”
