Heavenly week for Green Gully

Green Gully capped a great week with a 3-2 win over Avondale in a National Premier League Victoria thriller at Knights Stadium on Saturday.

Liam Boland scored a double and Kliment Taseski also found the back of the net for the Cavaliers, who played with 10 men for most of the second half after a second yellow card to Yohei Iwasaki.

The victory puts the Cavs up to fourth on the ladder, replacing Oakleigh Cannons, who had a scheduled game against Richmond on Friday night postponed to a later date.

It was not Green Gully’s only notable feat for the week.

The Cavs also advanced to the national round of 32 of the FFA Cup after a tense 1-0 win over Bulleen Lions at Green Gully Reserve on Wednesday night.

Veteran Rodrigo Vargas headed in the match-winning goal in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Knights had a day to forget, going down 5-0 to Northcote City at John Cain Memorial Park on Saturday.

The Knights will have to regroup quickly for their FFA Cup showdown with Port Melbourne Sharks being played at Knights Stadium tomorrow night.

In state league 1, North Sunshine Eagles inflicted a first loss of the season on Altona Magic in a stirring 2-1 win away at Paisley Park.

Keilor Park crushed Diamond Valley United 5-0 at Keilor Park Reserve.
