Gisborne plays on

Gisborne is through for another week in the AFL Goldfields Women’s competition.

The Bulldogs played out an elimination thriller against Bacchus Marsh in the battle between fourth and fifth at the weekend.

Having beaten Bacchus Marsh twice before during the season, the Bulldogs took a lot of confidence into the game.

Neither side as able to control the game and in the end it was the Bulldogs that were in front at the final siren, winning 4.7 (31)-4.4 (28).

Jessica D’Antonio was the key target up forward for the Bulldogs, kicking three of her side’s four goals.

Ashlee Knight, who kicked the other goal, was named the Bulldogs best, along with Neve Carrigg and Brianna Woodburn.

The win sets up a knockout semi-final clash with Carisbrook which was smashed by East Point, 8.10 (58)-0.2 (2).

The only time the Bulldogs and Carisbrook met back in round four, Carisbrook won by 17 points.

East Point will face Redan in the other semi, with a spot in the grand final on the line.

Redan had the weekend off, having finished on top of the ladder.

The AFL Goldfields’ under-age girls competition finals start this weekend.

In the RDFL youth league competition, the Sunbury Kangaroos face Gisborne Blue for a spot in the grand final.

Melton Centrals play Gisborne White in the other semi-final.
