Gisborne move into top two

Gisborne did its hopes of a top two spot no harm with a final over win against Bacchus Marsh in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association McIntyre Cup.

With both sides aiming for top two, the result of Saturday’s match is important in the context of the season.

The Bulls made 6-174 from their overs, with Samuel Lalor top scoring with 53 at the top of the order.

Joshua McDonald was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.

The Dragons top order all got starts, but the side would lose wickets at crucial times.

Pat McKenna was the key man, making 62, but his wicket with 19 runs needed to win wasn’t ideal.

The Dragons got the job done in the end, finishing, 8-176.

Rhys Watson and Ian Spiteri took two wickets each for the Bulls.

The Dragons jump the Bulls and now sit second on the ladder, behind Sunbury United.

Chris Burkett was the star of the round as he helped Romsey to a big win against Rupertswood.

Burkett made 106 as Romsey made 3-234 from its overs.

It was all single wicket takers for Rupo.

At 3-98, Rupo was in a solid position in the run chase. It all went south from there, with Rupo losing 7-16 to be bowled out for 114.

Skipper Andrew Pizaro was the only batter to get going, making 66, as just two batsmen reached double figures.

Louis Moor was the pick of the bowlers, with 4-16 off seven overs.

Diggers Rest Bulla’s late season turnaround has continued, with the Burras now just three points outside the top six.

The Burras made 7-171 from their overs with Nalaka De Silva top scoring with 80 not out.

The Kangaroos fell just short, finishing 9-164 from their overs.

Wallan had a big win against Woodend.

The Magpies made 6-199 from their overs with Matthew Clayton top scoring with 73.

Tom Robson took three wickets for Woodend.

It was a day to forget with the bat with just three players reaching double figures. Woodend was bowled out for 114.

Chris Vecchie took 4-17 off his nine overs for the Magpies.

The Magpies sit fifth on the ladder.

In the other match, ladder leaders Sunbury United defeated East Sunbury.

The Thunder made 9-104 from their overs with Chris Watson the only batter to reach double figures, making 24.

United needed just 23 overs to chase down the runs, finishing 3-107.

Steven Fogarty top scored with 40 not out.

In the Johnstone Shield, Baccus Marsh beat Eynesbury, Macedon was too good for Gisborne, Riddell defeated Kyneton, Romsey was too strong for Aintree and Sunbury beat East Sunbury.
