Gisborne has appointed a father and son duo to coach their women’s side in this year’s FV state league season.
The Sky Blues announced late last year that Tony Ivanov had been appointed the club’s women’s head coach.
“Tony brings with him a wealth of football experience as a player, head coach and coaching director,” the club said in its announcement.
“He currently holds a Football Australia Senior Licence and formerly held a UEFA Pro Licence. The former goalkeeper has coaching experience around many clubs in Melbourne’s west including Sydenham Park, Brimbank Stallions, Moreland United, LaTrobe Uni, and Altona Magic.
“He has also spent time at Preston lions in youth development.”
Ivanov replaces Tony Trimboli .
Tony’s son Jamie Ivanov has been appointed assistant coach of the women’s side.
The two join a program that has had success in recent times.
The women’s side had lost just one game in state league 4 in 2021 before the season was shut down due to COVID-19.
They backed in up in 2022, claiming the state league 4 west title, finishing goal difference ahead of Sydenham Park. Both teams lost just two matches for the year.
It was the first women’s title for the Sky Blues.
