Putting out a full 90 minute performance is on the agenda for Gisborne in the FV state league 4 west season.
The Sky Blues have had chances to win both their opening two matches, but only have one point to show for their efforts.
On Saturday, they finally got the three points, defeating Spring Hills 2-0.
Speaking before Saturday’s match, coach Danny Moore said it had been slightly disheartening not to win either of their first two matches having been in front in both matches.
“It could be better as we’ve had a few challenging results,” he said.
“The first two games we’ve been in strong performances and in a good position to take the win. In the first match we were up 4-1 before they scored three late goals to draw the match.
“In the game against Laverton, who were the standout team last year. We were 2-1 up. We should have at least come away with a point, but again we unfortunately conceded a couple of goals.
“I would say they were unavoidable. It’s been a rollercoaster.”
Moore said the main thing for them now was to ensure they played out the whole game. He said concentration was a key.
He said it was also having that belief that they could get the job done.
“I have absolute full confidence in the playing group,” he said.
“We have lots of quality players, it’s about getting that return.”
Moore said while they hadn’t got the results they were after, it hadn’t been all negative.
He said they started last season dropping their first couple of games, before kicking into gear. The Sky Blues were sitting fifth when the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
In another positive, the side has scored seven goals in two games, the most in the division.
Moore said the attacking end was where their strength is.
“We’re fairly positive that we can turn it around,” he said.
“I’ve said to the guys I know we will always score and create opportunities going forward, it’s the other end we have to tighten things up.
“We know that we will be in every game.”
Overall, Moore said things were travelling quite well at the club.
He said despite the impacts of COVID-19 the club’s player membership base has grown considerably.
The senior women’s team and junior teams will start their seasons on April 24.
