Reigning premier Sunbury United has the upper hand after day one of its clash with cross-town rival Sunbury in Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup.
With the two sides filling the bottom two spots on the ladder, a win is vital for both of last season’s grand finalists.
Sunbury chose to bat at Clarke Oval where several of its batsmen got starts but couldn’t go on with it.
Four players made 20, but only Heath Boffey passed 21, making 44 of his side’s modest 145.
United skipper Jeremy Newman was the best of the bowlers with 4-42.
United then faced 10 overs before stumps and will start the second day on 1-18.
Jarrod Potter is the batsman out, for one, while fellow opener Lance Watts is unbeaten on 10.
Elsewhere, Woodend made 199 against Gisborne at Gilbert Gordon Oval. Adam Johnstone continued his good form with 53, while coach Warren Else made 51.
Jay King took 4-33 for Gisborne.
Romsey opener Ben Way made 81 and Sean Day contributed 63 to their side’s total of 182 against undefeated Riddell.
But the pair were the only two to make double figures at Riddell Reserve as Cameron Moran took 4-32 for Riddell.
Diggers Rest Bulla’s good run with the bat continued, this time against Bacchus Marsh at Maddingley Park.
The Burras shared the runs around on the way to 260 all out.
Darren Quarrell top-scored with 57, while Lindon Dowsett made 51.
Bacchus Marsh survived one over before stumps and resumes at 0-1.
