All teams in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s B-grade competition are on the winners’ list for the season, with Lancefield and Ashfield opening their accounts on Saturday.
Lancefield’s win inflicted the first loss for the season on Rupertswood.
After restricting Rupertswood to 156 on day one of the two-day match, the Tigers were in trouble early in the run chase on Saturday. Three quick wickets to Karl Sutherland had the Tigers slumping to 3-18. When Lachlan McLean took the wicket of Alex Laidlaw for a duck, the Tigers were 4-21 and in big trouble.
Ryan Millar and Jarryd McGill set about rescuing the innings, putting on a partnership of 74 to get their side back in the match.
Millar continued on after McGill lost his wicket, making 82 before being run out with victory in sight. The Tigers finished at 7-158.
Ashfield won its first match of the season by defeating East Sunbury.
Captain-coach Jason King and Simon Barry did the damage with the ball for Ashfield, taking five and four wickets respectively as East Sunbury was bowled out for 201, 32 runs short of victory.
Chris Watson top-scored for East Sunbury with 44.
In other matches, St Anthonys continued its unbeaten start to the season against Macedon.
Needing 262 for victory, Macedon was bowled out for 174 in the 63rd over and Wallan defeated Bacchus Marsh.
