Sunbury Jets’ star Courtney Duever’s sensational form has been rewarded with the American earning a Women’s National Basketball League contract.
The Melbourne Boomers announced Duever as the final member of their senior roster for 2017-18 on Wednesday.
Duever, who joined the Jets, last season has been a standout at in the Big V the last two seasons.
A late inclusion last year, Duever was a standout for the Jets as they went through the season undefeated on the way to the division 1 title. Duever was named grand final most valuable player.
As the Jets stepped up a level to state championship division, Duever has taken her game to another level.
She’s averaging 23.17 points per game this season, only behind her new Boomers teammate Rebecca Cole. She is also second for average rounds, pulling down nearly 11 boards per game.
The Jets sit atop the state championship ladder with only two losses for the season.
Boomers’ coach Guy Molloy told the Boomers’ website that they thought they had found a ‘gem’.
“Not a weekend goes by where Justin (Nelson) and I aren’t out looking at games across Big V and SEABL. We value those competition highly and its testament to the high calibre of players in those leagues that we believe Courtney will slot perfectly into our line-up,” he said
“I think Courtney has been the stand out post player in the Big V and everyone at the club is very confident she has the skill, determination and work ethic to make the jump into the WNBL.”
Duever said she was excited to learn to play against the best players in Australia.
