Finals spots up for grabs

The race for the final Riddell District Netball League finals spots will go down to the wire.

With two rounds remaining, three sides are fighting it out for the final two spots.

Melton Centrals was the big winner in that race on Saturday as it beat Diggers Rest, while Lancefield and Wallan both suffered losses.

Centrals led by just one at quarter time, before increasing the lead to 12 goals at the main break.

The margin continued to grow in the second half, with Centrals beating the Burras, 57-30.

Imogen Sexton, who shot 34 goals, was named Centrals’ best along with Manon Muir.

Leona Hristovska was named Diggers Rest best.

Centrals is now two points behind sixth placed Wallan and four points behind fifth placed Lancefield.

Both those sides lost to the top two sides on Saturday.

Riddell had to fight hard to get the points against Wallan.

Scores were level at half time before the Bombers broke open to a five goal lead heading into the final quarter.

It was goal for goal in the final quarter with the Bombers doing enough to win, 47-41.

Bec Cowell shot 33 goals for the Bombers, while Sahara Ball shot 14.

Lancefield tested itself against ladder leaders Woodend-Hesket, going down 53-36.

The Hawks were able to build the lead over the four quarters.

Abby Gedge shot 41 goals for the Hawks with the defensive combo of Georgia Bowkett and Tayissa Coppinger named their best.

Bella Collodetti was named the Tigers best.

Elsewhere, Gisborne Giants had a big win against Melton South.winning 83-37.

Giants shooters Olivia Craske and Emma Winfield, who scored 40 and 43 goals, respectively were named their best.

Romsey’s finals hopes came to an end with a 61-50 loss to Macedon.

The margin was just three goals at three quarter time before the Cats finished with a 19-11 final quarter.
