Family affair at Riddell

It was a family affair for ladder leaders Riddell in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association Jensen Shield seconds on Saturday, with club history made.

For the first time, the club had two brother-sister duos playing in the club’s first XI side.

Eden and Jarvis Boland, along with Owen and Tess Arthur played in the Bombers win against Hanging Rock on Saturday.

Making Saturday even more special, Mick Boland played alongside both his daughter and son in the game.

Eden made her first XI debut earlier in the season, while it was Tess’ first game in the top side.

Both are still under-17 players and playing women’s cricket and junior cricket as well.

The Bombers continued their good form as they cruised to victory against the Heelers.

The Bombers made 9-189 from their overs with Peter Cashen top scored with 88.

Eden and Tess were the not out batters.

Gary Sandow took four wickets for the Heelers.

The Bombers bowlers were able to get the job done, restricting the Heelers to 9-137 from their 40 overs.

Four players, including Eden, took two wickets each for the Bombers.

After 10 matches, the Bombers are nine points clear on top of the ladder and are undefeated.

The Heelers sit in third spot.

In other matches, Malmsbury snuck home against Sunbury United.

Chasing 180, Malmsbury hit the winning runs with five balls remaining.

Malmsbury finished 9-181.

Malmsbury sits in right spot, nine points outside the top four.

Rupertswood, Romsey, Gisborne and Wallan were the other winners on Saturday.
