David Kimpton did a lot for East Sunbury Football Club.
After walking into the club one day, Kimpton took on a number of roles at the club over a number of years. Most weeks he was at the club at least three times a week.
Even when he got sick with cancer, he still turned up each week to be the time keeper for the seniors and reserves. If the club would have let him, he would have done the role for the under-18.5s as well.
Kimpton’s death last year during the offseason had a big impact on the club and its members.
Thunder president Keith Osborne said Kimpton was a ‘legend ‘of the club.
“He always gave up time to help out,” he said.
“He taught us professionalism and what we needed to do if we wanted to go to a higher level.
“He could have won the best clubman award every year as he was that sort of person.
“He helped build the culture at East Sunbury.”
The Thunder has decided to dedicate a match in Kimpton’s honour each year. Saturday against Keilor Park will be the first David Kimpton Dedication day.
Osborne said the day was about saying thank you to Kimpton. Before coming to the Thunder, Kimpton had a long involvement with the Sunbury Lions.
“The whole day is about David,” he said. “His family will be coming on the day along with some of his old footy mates.
“There will be a minute silence before the game and a function afterwards.”
