Kyneton Golf is yet again among the contenders in the Central Highlands Bowls Division’s top grade.
The most dominant team in the competition in recent history, Golf found itself second on the ladder, only percentage behind Bacchus Marsh, during the Christmas break.
Both teams have just one loss for the season, with Golf winning the match between the two sides.
Golf secretary John Trounce said things went smoothly for the club in the first part of the season.
“Things are going well,” he said.
“It’s been a pretty even effort across the board, with no one really starring from all reports. We’ve got a few skips towards the top of the ladder.”
Anthony Mathison has been the side’s top skip, sitting second overall with just one loss for the year.
Despite losing just one game in the first part of the season, Trounce knows they can’t take it easy in the second part of the season.
Golf’s loss came in the final round before Christmas against Lancefield, which currently sits fifth.
Trounce said the team aimed to continue its form from the first half of the season.
The club’s second side is sitting just outside the top four, while its midweek side is third.
“We always set ourselves some reasonably high goals,” Trounce said.
“Things are going along nicely and finals are always the aim.
“We want to at least hold our spots and hopefully improve on them with all three sides.”
Competition after the Christmas break resumes on January 20. Golf travels to Romsey, Lancefield hosts Bacchus Marsh Gold, Kyneton faces Gisborne and Bacchus Marsh Blue is at home to Trentham.
Division 2 and division 3 competitions also resume on the same day.
Meanwhile, Bowls Victoria pennant returns to action this weekend.
Third-placed Sunbury will face bottom-placed Altona (2) in division 1, section 1 on Saturday. Sunbury is well cemented in the top four, 32 points clear of fifth-placed Melton.
