Bowls: Runaway leader Sunbury clinches top spot

Sunbury has secured a top‐two finish and a home final in Bowls Victoria’s division 2, section 2 pennant.

With two rounds left, the ladder leaders are primed to finish on top of the ladder after not losing since round eight.

Sunbury is nine points clear of second‐placed Fitzroy Victoria (2), with third‐placed Glenroy (2) another 47 points back.

Sunbury easily accounted for Yarraville Footscray (3) on Saturday, winning 97 (15)–70 (3).

Brad Janner was the standout on the day, with his rink winning 29‐18.

Brad Willoughby’s rink won 32‐13, while Mark Cowan tied 18‐18 and Elise Cowan lost 21‐18.

Carla Krizanic (nee Odgers) missed the win but was expected to return to the side this week.

Sunbury’s Dave Glennon said it was good to have secured the home final with still two rounds remaining.

He said the key now was to try to keep stable teams throughout all its sides.

“It looks like we’ll have four teams through to finals,” he said.

“Each of our five teams have won their last two matches.

“It’s set up the second team to get back into the four and our fourth side, which looked like being relegated, is now out of the relegation zone.”

Sunbury’s top side plays Buckley Park this week..
