Gisborne in the clear

Only a massive loss can stop Gisborne from finishing top of the Central Highlands bowls division 1 ladder.

With one round remaining in the season, Gisborne is 15 points clear of Kyneton Golf Gold.

Two rink wins against Lancefield in the final round will be enough for Gisborne to finish first.

On Saturday, Gisborne easily accounted for Kyneton, 122 (18)-84 (0), with Matthew Bacon’s rink winning 40-19.

Kyneton Golf Gold also had a massive win in knocking off Kyneton Golf Blue. Gold won 132 (16)-65 (2), with Colin Schmidt taking the rink win for the Blues.

Lancefield kept the pressure on second-placed Gold and remains four points behind heading into the final round.

On Saturday, it defeated Woodend 94 (15)-83 (3).

Bacchus Marsh defeated Romsey 109 (18)-85 (0) in the other match.

Meanwhile, Sunbury has all but cemented a top-two spot with three rounds remaining in Bowls Victoria’s division 2, section 2.

Facing third-placed West Coburg, Sunbury won 100 (18)-55 (0).

Brad Janner’s rink won 31-8, Mark Cowan won 19-17, Carla Krizanic (nee Odgers) won 23-22, and Brad Willoughby won 27-8.

Sunbury is atop the ladder, nine points clear of Fitzroy Victoria (2) and 45 clear of third-placed Glenroy (2).

It was a good week for Janner, who won a successive Sunbury male club champion trophy and the club’s male pairs with his father David.

Krizanic won the women’s singles club championship.
