Bowlers fire for Sunbury

Sunbury secured its second win of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 5 Russell Pollock Shield season with a stunning bowling display.

Jacana looked on track for victory as it was cruising at 2-90 in reply to Sunbury’s 186 made on day one.

The Roar bowlers then got on a roll, to skittle Jacana for 114 and secure the win.

Jacana resumed at 0-25 having got through 12 overs unscathed at the end of day one.

The Roar got two early breakthroughs to have the Jaguars at 2-34.

The Jaguars steadied and looked on track for victory at 2-90.

The two Jasons, McGann and McGowan, then got going for the Roar taking 5-18 to have the Jaguars in trouble at 7-108.

The wickets continued to fall with Jay King joining the party.

McGann finished off the Jaguars with two more wickets, to have them all out for 114.

They lost their last eight wickets for just 24 runs.

McGann, who made 71 in the Roar’s innings, capped off a man of the match performance with 6-25 off 18.1 overs.

King and McGowan took two wickets each for the Roar.

The win moves Sunbury up to sixth, with two wins and two losses from their four matches.

It was the second win for the Roar the last week, having won their T20 match against the Melton South Royals on Tuesday night.

The Roar made a massive 2-239 off their 20 overs, with skipper Craig Ballinger blasting 122 not out, while Justin Nelson finished 95 not out.

The Roar then bowled the Royals out for 85 with nearly four overs remaining.

McGann and Murphy Boyd took two wickets each for the Roar.

The Roar are undefeated in the T20 competition. They have one more round match remaining.

The packed cricket schedule continues this week for the Roar, with two one-dayers.

On Saturday, they host Moonee Valley and then will be back at Progress Reserve on Sunday for a catch up one-dayer against Sanctuary Lakes.
