Bombers season continues

Riddell is peaking at the right time of the season in the Riddell District Netball League.

After an up and down season on and off the court, including parting ways with coach Adam Boldiston with two weeks left in the season, the Bombers snuck into finals.

On Sunday, they faced Wallan in an elimination final in tough conditions. The Bombers might have been the underdog, but they can away with the win, 26-14.

Bombers’ Lauren Nolan said she was glad that she wasn’t a shooter in those conditions.

“It was low scoring and it was horrendous conditions,” she said. “I think the wind played a big part in the low scoring.

“There was turnover after turnover,” she said. “We were able to get the goals when it mattered.

Nolan said it was a few of their younger girls that had stood up.

Fionnuala McKeagney-Stubbs starred in defence, while Maddy Brown continued her good form.

“She’s a young one in the attacking end who killed it for us,” Nolan said.

“She played in the under-17 grand final last Sunday. Hopefully it continues for the rest of the finals.”

Nolan said Sunday was the first time all season that they’d had their whole team together on court.

“We’re taking it one week at a time,” she said. “It’s been a bit of an up and down year off court all season and we haven’t had a full team.

“We’re finally finding form at the good time of year. We slid into finals and we’ll just continue to take it as it comes.”

The Bombers now face Diggers Rest in a knock out semi final on Sunday.

The Bombers have won the games between the two sides this season.

“It’s always tough and you never know what is going to happen,” he said.

“It’s exciting to see how we go.” The Bombers C-grade side will also be in action on Sunday against Macedon.
