Bombers pick winning line up

There was the right mix of youth and experience in Riddell’s C-grade grand final side in the Riddell District Netball League on Sunday.

Having finished fourth on the ladder, the Bombers had to get past Broadford, Romsey and a highly fancied Rupertswood outfit on the way to the grand final.

In the grand final they faced Melton Centrals who had finished third on the ladder.

Once on the court, a Bombers win was never in doubt as they won 30-13 at Romsey Park.

The Bombers defensive pressure early was on song as they created turnover after turnover, allowing the shooters to convert at the other end of the court.

It was quickly 8-0 in the Bombers favour and the Centrals never recovered from there.

The defensive pressure continued all day, with Centrals shooting at just 42 per cent accuracy.

At the other end the Bombers shot at 70 per cent.

Bombers goal attack Tanisha Bardzinski was adjudged best on court.

Bombers coach Claire Slattery said didn’t ever expect to start as well as they did.

Last year the Bombers were knocked out in the first week of finals.

“It feels amazing,” Slattery said.

“I think we have been underrated by everybody.

“That is the start you hope for. You want to come out and control the game, but I didn’t expect that.

“I thought the defensive pressure was great and once the ball was down the other end they attackers did the rest.”

Slattery said it was a bonus for the side to have such an even spread of players.

“There’s a great mix of young players with optimism and then the older players who bring that maturity

“The younger girls get confidence from the older players.”

Slattery said it is positive from a club’s point of view to not just have the C-grade side, but also the under-19’s and A-grade teams in grand finals.
