Victory not the only aim for Sunbury Jets

Sunday’s Big V games will be more than just about the wins for Sunbury Jets.

The association will pay tribute to former and serving members of Australian defence forces, with both Jets’ senior teams playing in charity games ahead of Anzac Day.

Money raised by the matches will go towards the Anzac Day appeal.

Sunbury RSL members will be selling badges at the stadium during the matches, and also on the Saturday, while the association’s junior domestic competition is under way.

Players from both the state championship women’s side and division 1 men’s side will wear special commemorative uniforms, with the club to auction them off afterwards.

All money raised at the auction will be donated to the RSL effort.

The Jets’ undefeated women’s side will play the Warrandyte Venom at noon, while the men’s side, which sits 1-3, plays Melbourne Uni Black Angels, starting at 2pm.

Women’s coach and association coaching director Kennedy Kereama said the matches were a way of giving thanks for the sacrifices made by defence force members and their families.

Bids for the uniforms can be made on the association’s website and social media pages. The reserve price of each uniform is $50. The auction closes on April 26.
