Back-to-back for Rupertswood

Rupertswood’s C-grade side has claimed back-to-back Riddell District Netball League premierships.

After breaking through for their first title last season, the Sharks have again been the team to beat this year, going through the season undefeated.

In Sunday’s grand final against Diggers Rest, the Sharks led from start to finish in a solid performance.

The Sharks opened up a four goal lead at quarter time and that was that the final margin would be, winning 23-19.

Sharks coach Di McCormack said the girls just got out there and did the job.

“They took it to us,” McCormack said of the Burras.

“It wasn’t an easy win and we had to consolidate. We had to make changes when things weren’t working, to put them off,

“The change ups near the end sort of let Diggers back in, but it was great to get everyone on.”

Hannah Keane was named best on court.

It was Keane’s third premiership in two days. On Saturday she was part of Lorne’s A-grade side which beat Simpson. In that game she shot 31 goals.

She was then part of the Sharks under-19 premiership and backed it up in the C-grade grand final.

“I think Hannah will go a long way in netball,” McCormack said.

“She’s riding high on grand finals at the moment. She’s got the maturity of someone a lot older than 14.”

McCormack said Lucy Keane in defence did a great job shooter down Diggers Rest’s shooter and Caitlyn Castle was the driving force in the midcourt.

Like their winning under-19 side, the C-grade side is a very young side. McCormack said the girls had been a pleasure to coach.

“They’re at training every week and they listen.

“I’m very directive when I coach and they take it and listen to direction.

“They worked hard to get where they are.”
