Sunbury United suffered its third loss of the FV state league 3 north-west season on Friday night. Having won five games in a row, Sunbury took plenty of confidence in against Altona North. A goal in the first four minutes put Altona North in front and it would be the final score line, 1-0. Sunbury remains in second spot. In state league 4 west, Gisborne had another win, this time beating Barnestoneworth United, 4-0. Gisborne sits in third spot, one of three teams on 22 points.

Rupertswood and the Sunbury Kangaroos both suffered close losses in the Essendon District Football League division 1 competition on Saturday. The Sharks, who were celebrating skipper Brent Swallow’s 200th match, lost to Westmeadows, 11.14 (80)-12.4 (76). The Kangaroos, who are still looking for their first win, looked headed for an upset for much of the day before losing to West Coburg, 10.12 (72)-10.4 (64). The Sunbury Kangaroos and Sunbury Lions had byes in the women’s competition.

Big V

The Sunbury Jets men pulled off a stunning win against Wyndham in Big V men’s state championship on Saturday night. In the battle between one and two, the match went down to the final second. A pray and hope three-point shot from Jeremy Wragg just before the buzzer was successful to give the Jets a 93-92 win. Ish Sanders top scored with 33 points. The Jets remain in second spot, having played one less game than Wyndham.

RDNL

Macedon stamped itself as the premiership favourites in the Riddell District Netball League after beating Woodend-Hesket on Saturday. Two of the top sides this season, the Cats got home in a thriller, winning 35-32. The Cats sit atop the ladder, the only undefeated side. In other matches, the Western Rams beat Riddell, 55-50, Diggers Rest was too good for Lancefield, 62-42 and Melton Centrals beat Romsey, 52-39.
