Kyneton Tigers men’s side suffered a 92-58 loss to the Castlemaine Cannons on Saturday night in the Basketball Victoria Country Basketball League north-west. The Cannons jumped out of the blocks and led by 14 points at quarter time. They continued to build the margin throughout. Kyle Bravo-Cripps top scored with 19. The Tigers women’s side had a bye. Both Tigers teams face the Macedon Ranges Rockies in the final round of the season.

Ballarat FL

Former AFL-listed defender Cody Brand is returning to his home club. Brand, who was delisted by Essendon after failing to play an AFL game, returns to the Sunbury Lions in the Ballarat Football League next season. Brand played at the Lions before he was drafted. He’s the third player with Victorian Football League experience to sign for the club this off season, with Rivva Karpany and Josiah Garisto joining the club. Meanwhile, the Lions have lost skipper Daniel Toman who has returned to his home club, Woodend-Hesket.

It was a rain interrupted round in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association Johnstone Shield. On day one of the first two day matches of the season, just three matches got underway. Eynesbury made 206 with Bacchus Marsh 0-4 at stumps. Sunbury United made 4-237 against Kyneton, while Aintree is 0-22 in reply to Macedon. There was no action between Gisborne and Riddell, and Romsey and Kilmore.

AFL academies

Calder Cannons’ Amy Gaylor has been named in the AFLW Academy squad for next year. The AFL and AFLW academy squads each feature 30 players and include a selection of the most talented 17-year-old footballers across the country. The players selected will be eligible in the 2022 AFL draft and 2023 AFLW draft, following the 2023. AFLW season. Players will participate in high performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season.
