EDFL
There could be two new teams in the Essendon District Football League next season. The EDFL board last week approved the applications of Deer Park and St Albans to join the competition for 2023. The Western Region Football League, where the two teams currently play, has a period of 10 days to decide whether to object to the two applications, with AFL Victoria to have the final decision. Both teams have been playing in WRFL division 1.
Basketball
Former Sunbury junior Sara Blicavs won bronze as part of the Australian Opals side at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Blicavs played a vital role for the Opals stepping into the starting line up late in the tournament following an injury to Bec Allen. The Opals beat Canada in the bronze medal game, 95-65. Blicavs finished with 12 points in that match. It capped off a big week for the Blicavs family, with her brother Mark Blicavs part of Geelong’s premiership side.
