Here’s a quick look at some of the sporting news and results from across Hume and Whittlesea from the last week.

 

Soccer

Hume City winger Jai Ingham has signed for reigning A-League champions Melbourne Victory. After he had trained with the club for a month, Victory announced Ingham’s signing on the opening day of the January transfer window. Ingham came off the bench after 77 minutes in Victory’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Central Coast Mariners in Geelong on Friday night.

 

Craig Shield

Plenty Valley scored its first win of Victorian Sub-District Cricket’s under-15 Craig Shield on Sunday. Facing Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows, who also went into the match without a win, the Bats dominated with the bat on the way to 7-176. In reply, the Falcons were bowled out for 102. Both sides play their next matches in the tournament on Tuesday.

Women’s Premier Cricket

Box Hill hit the winning runs against Plenty Valley with only two balls to spare in Women’s Premier Cricket on Sunday. The Bats were bowled out for 87 with two balls left in their innings, with Lyndall Daley top-scoring with 15. Box Hill was made to fight for the win, making 6-91. Tayla Vlaeminck took two wickets for the Bats.

Epping suffered its second loss of the Diamond Valley Cricket Association’s Barclay Shield season, falling short against ladder leaders Diamond Creek on Saturday. Batting first Epping were bowled out for 113, with openers Thomas Emmins (66 not out) and Nilakshan Abeyratne (16) the only batsmen to reach double figures. In reply, Diamond Creek made 6-116. Billy McKeown and Robert Tinsley took two wickets each for Epping. Bundoora United took the points against Bundoora in the local derby. Bundoora was bowled out for 96, with United making the runs four wickets down. Other winners on Saturday were Lower Eltham, Plenty, Macleod and Rosanna.
