Hume’s youth council has been sworn in.
The young councillors are ready to lead after officially being sworn in at the council chambers in Broadmeadows on Thursday 11 December.
The 12-member youth council was formed as part of the Young Mayors Program, in partnership with council and the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA).
Elected by local youth in Hume in October, the youth council will collaborate throughout 2026 to identify priority areas and partner with council to deliver projects and initiatives that address issues important to the community’s younger generation, including safety, reducing youth crime, mental health, and creating vibrant spaces for young residents.
Mayor Carly Moore welcomed the young cohort.
“Our new youth council members are committed to giving their peers a voice and having a say in their future,” she said.
“By stepping forward, taking part in the nomination and election process, and dedicating their time to our community, they’re starting an exciting new chapter for young people in Hume.”
The program will support young people to learn about and participate in the systems that govern their lives, and influence decisions that impact their community.
