Young Voices of Macedon relocates

Young Voices of Macedon is a choir for children in the Macedon Ranges and surrounds (supplied).

A children’s community choir in the Macedon Ranges has moved to New Gisborne to make attendance for Sunbury children and staff easier.

Young Voices of Macedon is a choir for children of the Macedon Ranges and beyond and has moved from Woodend to the House of the Rock Church, at 247 Station Road, New Gisborne.

The choir, which has separate programs for children aged between five and eight and those over nine, enjoyed a productive and very successful year in 2023.

Young Voices of Macedon manager Dianne Gome said there were many highlights from last year, including a performance of Sea Dreaming by Elena Kats-Chernin with the Bendigo Youth Choir and Bendigo Symphony Orchestra in November.

“[There were also] performances at Choralfest @ Montsalvat, the opening of the Woodend Winter Arts Festival, the annual concert in Macedon and the Service of Readings and Carols at the Church of the Resurrection, Macedon,” she said.

“Six girls from the choir were invited to provide backing vocals for a recording of Merry Christmas War is over with lead singer Dylan Marguccio, [which] featured on iTunes and Spotify.

“This year promises to be equally exciting and will include a further collaboration with the Bendigo Youth Choir in two performances.”

Ms Gome said rehearsals are led by teachers Jess Demare and Emma West, and newcomers are welcome to try out a rehearsal on Thursdays from 4.15 to 5.45pm.

“Children are stimulated to enjoy the experience of choral singing within a culture of inclusion and socialisation,” she said.
