Woodend firefighters tucked into some choc-cherry peppermint rolls as part of a special presentation by children at Woodend Primary School.
Prep and grade 1 pupils invited volunteers Mike Selby and Mike Dornau to the school last week, surprising them with morning tea and a pile of handmade cards.
The event was organised with help from teachers keen to show children how good it can feel to give to and acknowledge the efforts of others.
The kids also received something in return, having the chance to spray some water from one of the brigade’s tankers.
‘‘It was as much a pleasure for us as it was for the kids,’’ Mr Dornau said.
‘‘They made a fantastic effort with their cards, and some of the sentiments they expressed were priceless.’’
