Sunbury Women’s Shed members have found a new home to meet.

The group has been given access to the Sunbury Men’s Shed on Thursday afternoons, including full use of all the equipment and power tools.

Men’s shed members have also offered to train women to assist in furthering their practical skills.

Women’s shed founding member Noelene Jones said they had been looking for a more permanent place to meet for four years.

“We are so excited to have use of the Sunbury Men’s Shed workshop and finishing room so we can progress some of the projects we started at home pre-COVID,” she said.

The Sunbury Women’s Shed has taken part in a number of community projects including work at the Goonawarra Neighbourhood House, creating a street library box and running workshops in local hardware stores.

Shed president Margaret Cassidy said the shed was a great way for women to enhance their practical skills.

“The key things we are able to gain through the skills we are learning at the shed are the confidence and sense of empowerment to be able to fix things ourselves as well as the enjoyment of creating something,” she said.

The women’s shed is open to anyone over the 18. The group meets on Thursday’s between 12.30-3pm at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health, 12-28 Macedon Street, Sunbury.
