Woman charged with Sunbury murder

A woman has been charged with murder after another woman was found dead in a Sunbury street this morning.

Police and other emergency services were called to Balmoral Crescent about 7.30am, where they discovered the body of a 44 year-old woman.

The woman’s body was found on a nature strip about 250m from her home.

She was reportedly killed while walking to work, suffering multiple stab wounds.

Police are yet to reveal the exact cause of death.

A short time later, a woman living across the road from the victim drove to Sunbury police station.

Channel Seven named the woman in custody as 53 year-old Eva Maria Whitecross.

Her Subaru Forester was cordoned off with police tape outside Sunbury police station and kept as evidence.

Homicide Squad detectives interviewed Ms Whitecross for several hours on Saturday before charging her.

She appeared in an out of sessions hearing on Saturday evening and has been remanded in custody, to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
