Windfarm back on the agenda

A windfarm in the Macedon Ranges could be another step closer as lobby groups join a statewide conversation on the future of green energy projects.

The idea of establishing the wind farm outside Woodend was floated by the Woodend Integrated Sustainable Energy group seven years ago but the last government ruled them out of the Macedon Ranges.

Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group president Peter Hansford said the state government’s latest discussion paper,

Community Renewable Energy Projects, was a move in the right direction.

“It is encouraging and we are hopeful it will allow space for community-based projects,” he said.

“Our read is the government is wanting to embed the energy transformation message in communities.”

Feedback from residents will help inform the government about how best to restart the renewable energy industry for community projects and open the doors for community wind farms.

Feedback on the discussion paper is open until the November 28.
