Kyneton was drenched with more than 100 millimetres of rain as burst river banks caused flooding across the Macedon Ranges during last week’s wild weather.
Torrential downpours hit the region from Monday afternoon, causing problems for motorists throughout the week.
Roads closures were put in place at Baynton Road in Lancefield, Joyce Road in Chintin and Croziers Road, in Cobaw.
A fallen tree on Burke and Wills Track near Lancefield also blocked traffic.
In the 31 hours to 4pm on Tuesday, Bullengarook experienced 54 millimetres of rain, with Kyneton (51mm), Ashbourne (44mm), Lancefield (42mm) and Mount Macedon (38.4mm) also heavily hit.
Nearby Sunbury had 30 millimetres of rain over the same period.
The Campaspe River burst its banks as emergency services and meteorologists urged people to stay clear of floodwaters.
Motorists were cautioned to drive safely on the wet roads and avoid potholes.
“Many roads in the Macedon Ranges have been damaged, with pot holes the main issue,” the Macedon Ranges Weather Facebook page stated.
“Stay extra alert while driving over the next few days. Reports also showed that Lake Eppalock increased its capacity by 20 per cent to 71.5 per cent in just 24 hours.”
The Malmsbury and Coliban reservoirs overflowed and Deep Creek, which runs through Lancefield and Darraweit Guim and meets Jacksons Creek, inundated nearby properties.
By the time the low-pressure system moved on by Thursday, Kyneton had received 102.6 millimetres of rain, Lancefield 91.4mm, Malmsbury 86mm, Mount Macedon 85.6mm, Macedon 85mm, Woodend and Gisborne 75mm, Romsey and Riddles Creek both received 67mm and Sunbury 54mm.
