Sunbury and Macedon Ranges residents are being urged to save water despite recent rain.
Western Water general manager Graham Holt said residents shouldn’t become complacent about water use.
“While we’ve had some much-needed rain recently, the forecast over the coming months predicts below average rainfall,” he said. “It’s important for our customers to continue monitoring their water usage.”
Western Water said that despite low reservoir levels, customers are being urged to stick to permanent water saving rules and use less than 155 litres of water a day.
Western Water data shows that during the past month, customers used on average 220 litres per person a day – 65 litres more than then 155 litre target.
Water levels at Rosslynne Reservoir in Gisborne have decreased to just 16.4 per cent.
The reservoir is the traditional water source for Sunbury and Macedon Ranges residents.
Western Water made the switch to the Melbourne water supply for Macedon Ranges earlier this year to preserve Rosslynne Reservoir’s water levels.
Gisborne, New Gisborne, Gisborne South, Riddells Creek, Macedon and Mount Macedon are receiving all their water from the Melbourne source, as is Sunbury.
Lancefield, Woodend and Romsey are receiving a blend.
Western Water is encouraging residents to take shorter showers, turn off taps while brushing teeth, use dishwashers or washing machines only if full, check the weather forecast before watering gardens, mulch to reduce evaporation and ensure pools have covers.
