Kyneton will host an open art prize and exhibition as part of Victoria’s Pride – a celebration of queer communities.
The regional program for Victoria’s Pride was revealed by Equality Minister Harriest Shing on Friday, October 13, with a range of LGBTIQ+ events in regional Victoria.
That’s Soo Gay! is a program by Macedon Ranges Accessible Arts Inc at Kyneton’s Old Auction House, giving locals the chance to enter an open art prize and view an exhibition celebrating the power of the queer community’s contribution to society.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said it was “fantastic” to see the event come to Kyneton this summer.
“This is an important opportunity to come together to support and celebrate our fabulous LGBTIQ+ communities,” she said.
The regional program will kick off in December and culminate in a one-day street party in Melbourne’s Gertrude and Smith Street precinct on Sunday, February 12, 2023.
In a statement, the government said it provided up to $15,000 in funding to 14 different arts and culture projects through a grants program run by Victoria’s Pride event partner, Midsumma.
“The festival will give people across the state an important opportunity to demonstrate their pride in and support for LGBTIQ+ people and learn more about the great diversity of sexualities, genders and sex characteristics that make up our Victorian communities,” the government said.
That’s Soo Gay! is running from January 26 to February 12, 2023 at The Old Auction House, 52-56 Mollison Street, Kyneton.
