Former CFA board chair and long-time volunteer for the Mt Macedon Fire Brigade Kerry Murphy has been farewelled.
Kerry, who was a CFA member for 52 years, has been honoured for a lifetime of public service, dedication and achievement not only within his organisation, but by the broader community.
Kerry joined the Mt Macedon Brigade in the early 1970s, and served in many roles over the decades, including Firefighter, Captain, Group Officer, and later as chair of the CFA board.
He led the brigade through many difficult times, including the devastating Ash Wednesday Fires in 1983, and supported the community’s recovery, including helping to rebuild the Mt Macedon Primary School.
His honours included the Public Service Medal, Australian Fire Services Medal, Centenary Medal, National Medal and CFA Life Membership.
Kerry was farewelled on Thursday, May 15 in a service at the Mt Macedon CFA Station.
Speakers reflected on Kerry’s legacy, of someone who was regarded as a caring, trusted and deeply respected friend who had left a mark on all who met him.
At the conclusion of the service, CFA members formed a guard of honour outside the station to farewell Kerry for a final time.
