Sunbury emergency service volunteers will get some much-needed improvements, thanks to community support and a government grant.
State Emergency Service volunteers will receive more than $70,000 in new equipment, and upgrades to their depots and amenities, courtesy of the latest round of the government’s Emergency Services Volunteer Sustainability Grants program.
Improvements will include automated gates and sealed bitumen driveways, while a lighting platform will be shared by the Sunbury and Broadmeadows units.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull said about $90,000, including funds raised by the unit, would be used to help improve working conditions for emergency service volunteers.
Emergency Services Minister James Merlino said hundreds of grant applications had been received from emergency organisations across the state for the latest round of funding.
“The state government is supporting the significant contribution of the more than 100,000 emergency management volunteers, investing in equipment, training and facilities to keep our communities safe,” Mr Merlino said.
Meanwhile, Mr Bull encouraged volunteer brigades and units to apply for grants.
