Kyle Parkinson is running, cycling and swimming his way to a triathlon world championship.
Parkinson, 24, will compete at the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France, in the long-course triathlon.
The Sunbury resident said he was looking forward to fulfilling his triathlon dreams of competing at the highest level.
“I feel pretty extraordinary,” Parkinson said. “My goal was to make the world championships … it’s the biggest stage for the sport.”
Parkinson qualified for the world championships at the Ironman 70.3 at Penrith, New South Wales, in November.
“It was a 1.9-kilometre swim, 90-kilometre bike ride and a 21-kilometre run,” Parkinson said.
“It took me five hours and 40 minutes to complete.”
Ironman events are not part of the Olympics, but that hasn’t deterred the young athlete.
“To win my age group or go professional in the sport would be the dream,” he said.
The world championships will be held on September 7 and 8.
