Revised timetables are due out for V/Line train and bus services on the Bendigo line.
Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong train lines and some V/Line bus routes start on new schedules from January 31.
Bendigo will get an extra morning and evening peak service at 7am from Epsom to Melbourne, and at 4.02pm from Southern Cross Station to Bendigo.
A number of services will be extended from Bendigo to Epsom and Eaglehawk as part of the first stage of the Bendigo Metro project, and all weekday trains between Bendigo and Melbourne will also now stop at Kangaroo Flat. The changes coincide with the opening of Bendigo’s new bus network.
V/Line chief executive Theo Taifalos said a review had identified some schedule adjustments to help reduce delays, improve connections and accommodate stage one of Bendigo Metro Rail.
“Rather than a complete overhaul of the V/Line network timetable, we have focused on making adjustments to address some ongoing challenges and recognise our rapid patronage growth.”
Mr Taifalos said the changes would improve the spacing of Regional Rail Link services, and allow time at stations for customers to get on and off safely. Network punctuality figures in November were up to 89.2 per cent compared with 85.6 per cent in July.
