Train times falling behind

Macedon Ranges commuters are facing ongoing delays with punctuality on the Bendigo train line falling in the past 12 months.

Latest performance data released by V/Line revealed that 23 per cent of services on the Bendigo line arrived at their destination late last month – up from 13 per cent in May 2017.

The data also revealed that 37 services were cancelled on the line throughout May, meaning 96 per cent of the line’s 1078 services were delivered.

V/Line acting chief executive Carol-Anne Nelson said the company was disappointed by the delays.

She said trespassers and police-related incidents accounted for some of the delayed services last month.

Other reasons included trains stopping at stations longer than scheduled and delays in the shared section of the metropolitan network.

The Sunbury train line also experienced delays, with 12 per cent of services running late in May.

The line had 45 cancellations, while 53 services were terminated short of their destination.

Public Transport Victoria chief executive Jeroen Weimar said the network had experienced unplanned disruptions and major works in May.

“Last month was a tough month for operators with a number of major incidents causing significant disruption on our public transport network.”
