Hume residents have labelled traffic and parking management as the municipality’s biggest issues in the council’s Community Survey 2017-18.
Traffic and parking was the main concern identified in each ward, with the Jacksons Creek ward leading the way with the highest percentage of respondents, 44.9 per cent, prioritising the issue.
The ward, which contains the suburbs of Sunbury, Bulla and Oaklands Junction, gave the council a mean score of 2.7 out of five for providing enough parking around shopping areas.
Lack of parking has been an enduring issue in the Sunbury CBD, with retailers attributing the lack of business to residents being unable to find a park nearby.
A score of 2.8 out of five was given by the Jacksons Creek Ward to the council for its management of urban growth.
Mayor Geoff Porter said the survey was “one of the best ways to get a deep insight” into residents’ needs.
“Residents want to see improvements in areas such as traffic and parking management and cleanliness,” Cr Porter said.
He said the results would be used “to guide and develop” the council’s plan and budget, which would be released in late April.
Community satisfaction with the council’s overall performance has increased over the past year. The council received a mean score of 3.7 out of five from respondents, up from 3.1 last year.
Jacksons Creek gave a score of 3.6 for the council’s overall performance.
