A tip top place to get pre-loved items has popped up in Kyneton, as Macedon Ranges council seeks to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
The council has opened a tip shop at the Kyneton Transfer Station, located at 140 Redesdale Road, where residents can find free and cheap second-hand goods that would otherwise go to waste.
Mayor Jennifer Anderson said there were “some treasures to be found” at the shop, ranging from kids bikes to furniture and DIY items.
“We are looking at the items people bring to our transfer stations as a potential resource, rather than something to be disposed of, and that means less waste going to landfill,” Cr Anderson said.
Staff will select items that they deem to be reusable and in good condition from what is brought to the tip, and will display them at the shop for a bargain cost.
Proceeds from the trial shop will help cover some of its operating costs.
The store will be open when the transfer station is open – on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
The council will review the tip shop trial later this year.
