Macedon Ranges council and the Country Fire Authority is advising residents of the shire to begging burning off debris this month as the fire season approaches.
In October, landowners on properties less than one acre do not need a permit to burn off tree debris such as leaves, twigs and small branches.
Residents should continue to the burn-off for seven days following its ignition to make sure it is fully extinguished.
Council’s wildlife officers also recommend using carefully checking piles for wildlife before burning.
