Time for bands to battle it out

It’s time to welcome back this year’s Battle of the Bands (BOTB), with Macedon Ranges council calling on young people aged 12 to 25 who think they have what it takes to get on board.

Hosted by Music in the Sticks, BOTB 2022 is happening at Kyneton Town Hall on July 29, showcasing great local talent and proving young people within the FReeZA program an opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience performing live.

Mayor Jennifer Anderson said it was an exciting chance for the shire’s youth to showcase their musical talent, while gaining invaluable experience,

“In 2020 this event was held online due to Covid-19 restrictions and while it was still a success, it is fantastic to see the live event back up and running,” Cr Anderson said.

“I really encourage everyone to get there on the night and support our young people and soak up the great atmosphere.”

Two prizes are ready for the taking: the Judges Prize and the People’s Choice Prize.

The artist who receives the highest score from the judging panel will take home the Judges Prize, which includes a merchandise pack worth $500 to help promote their music. The People’s Choice Prize will be awarded to the artist who draws the biggest crowd, measured through ticket sales on the door. The winner will receive a $200 voucher for Manny’s/Store DJ.

The judging panel will include two community members prominent in the local music scene, a young person and a council representative.

Successful applicants are required to attend a compulsory pre-event meeting at Kyneton Town Hall on Monday, July 11.
