‘This farm needs a farmer’ named a winner

Kyneton’s Melissa Connors has been recognised with a state award for her ‘This farm needs a farmer’ project.

Ms Connors was awarded the 2018 Victorian AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award by agriculture minister Jaala Pulford at Melbourne Museum last week.

The Kyneton resident received the award for developing her program, which fosters stronger and more engaged farming communities by connecting tree-changers with established and retired farmers who can pass on their invaluable local knowledge.

“Melissa’s project is a timely reminder of the importance of promoting and capturing hand-me-down knowledge within the farming community,” Ms Pulford said.

Ms Connors and her family moved from Melbourne to Kyneton six years ago.

She has received a $10,000 bursary for her project. The project can be found at thisfarmneedsafarmer.com.au
