The gift of giving

Edgar’s Mission is asking for the gift of generosity from the community this Christmas.

The Lancefield animal sanctuary is taking part in Giving Tuesday on December 1 – a global movement to get people to engage with not-for-profit organisations in the lead up to Christmas.

As part of the initiative, the farm is hoping to raise $54,000 to cover a month’s worth of fees.

Community engagement and advocacy manager Sophia Grewal said the donations went a long way to help to keep the animal sanctuary open.

“We have over 450 animals on 153 acres and the money covers everything from the food we give them, to the ongoing rehabilitation and care, the rescues we do, even our assets and infrastructures and running costs,” she said.

“Giving Tuesday … is a way of driving generosity.”

Edgar’s Mission took part in Giving Tuesday for the first time last year and was able to raise $33,000.

With an even bigger goal in 2020, Ms Grewal is confident they will reach their target after already raising more than $32,000.

“We are quite blown away,” she said.

“We are hoping that we can beat our target and if we surpass the target, the money goes into the next month’s worth of care.

“We are on the other side of COVID-19 so this is an awesome way to come back.

“The initiative will give us a boost that we need to continue the life saving work we do to make the animals’ lives truly worth living.”

Edgar’s Mission will be posting live behind-the-scenes videos on it’s Facebook page on December 1 and will be accepting donations two weeks after Giving Tuesday.
