Mount Gisborne Telstra customers will be impacted by temporary outages from October 2 to 13, while upgrade works take place.

In an announcement on September 25, Telstra said they will upgrade the mobile base station at Mount Gisborne to bring better 4G and 5G connectivity.

From Monday, October 2, at 8am until Friday, October 6, at 5pm there will be no mobile network coverage from the site.

From Monday, October 9, until Friday, October 13, there will be temporary disruptions during the day while Telstra completes equipment integration and call testing.

Regional general manager Steve Tinker said they will only be switching off the site when they need to and will have it back on as quickly as possible.

“There’s never a good time to undertake this sort of work but once it’s completed, it will mean capacity and better mobile services for local residences,” Mr Tinker said.

Customers in the vicinity may be able to obtain service from other Telstra mobile towers during the disruption.

Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.

Any calls to triple-0 from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will be diverted to any working network for connection to emergency services.
