Telstra customers will experience temporary service disruptions from June 19 to June 26, as Telstra begins upgrading its mobile base station in Mount Holden.

In an announcement on June 14, Telstra said the upgrades will bring better 4G services and new 5G coverage, but will require a site shutdown.

From Monday June 19, until Friday June 23, there will be no 3G or 4G coverage from this site. The site will be restored over the weekend from June 24, to June 25, and work will continue on June 26.

Telstra said there will still be temporary interruptions for short periods during the day as network testing and integration is undertaken, but customers in the vicinity may be able to obtain service from our other towers.

Regional general manager Steve Tinker said this disruption is required for the work to be completed.

“We know that there is never a good time for work like this to occur,” Mr Tinker said.

“However the service disruption is required to perform the significant work required to provide the new technology and speed and capacity to Mount Holden.”

Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.

If all goes well and weather permits, Telstra said the works will be completed on June 26.

Calls to triple-0 when the site is off air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network for connection to emergency services.
