The Sunbury community has its very own Santa, and this Father Christmas fundraises for sick kids while bringing joy to locals.
This December, for the third year in a row, Sunbury father Sean Balchin will spend his evenings after work surprising children with a visit from Santa.
Mr Balchin offers ‘Santa Home Visits for the Kids’ between 6-8.30pm on weeknights in return for a minimum donation of $5 to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH).
He has already been booked out for special Christmas morning visits this year.
The man in red brings gifts of lolly bags and toys, as well as Christmas cheer. The father of two buys some of the treats out of his own pocket, and others have been donated by local businesses.
One hundred per cent of the funds he collects go to the RCH.
Last year Mr Balchin raised $9000 for the RCH from 140 home visits, and this year he hopes to hit the $10,000 mark.
Mr Balchin doesn’t have a personal connection to the RCH and said his children had always been lucky with health, but he believes “Christmas is all about the kids”.
